Gear shift lever mechanism — overhaul and adjustment (Peugeot 305)

1. The gear shift lever mechanism is shown in B/Figure 6.13. As a rule, it does not cause any particular problems, and its overhaul consists of inspecting individual components for wear and damage, lubricating the ball joints and steering axles, and replacing defective components. The need for a complete replacement of the gear shift lever mechanism may arise only after the car has been in an accident or with very high mileage.



2. In order to adjust the lever mechanism or when installing a new mechanism, make the length of the adjustable rod as shown in B/Figure 6.15, and check that the length of the switching link (between centers) was as shown in B/Figure 6.16.




3. When assembling, lubricate all moving joints with the appropriate type of grease.
