1. Differential seals can be replaced without removing the power unit from the vehicle, but the drive shafts must first be removed (see chapter 7).

2. After removing the drive shafts, remove the old seals from the differential box by prying them off with a screwdriver. Then be careful not to damage the box.

3. Before installing a new oil seal, clean its seat. Apply a small amount of grease to the new seal to make it easier to install and carefully tap it into place with the flat side out using a suitable punch until the seal seats on the thrust flange in the differential case. Repeat the above procedure for the second seal.

4. Before installing the drive shafts, fill the space between the lips of both seals with grease. Clean the drive shafts and install them, taking care not to damage the new seals.
