The thermostat is located in the fitting in the place indicated on figure 397, under the lid. To remove it, you need to drain the coolant (section 17.1.) and after loosening the clamp, disconnect the hose from the fitting. Remove the thermostat.

The thermostat cannot be repaired and must be replaced if damaged. A simple check is carried out in the same way as on gasoline engines.

The thermostat opening temperature ranges from 83 to 89°C.

When installing, the thermostat is installed with a new gasket. To ensure good sealing, a sealing compound is applied to the contact surfaces. Before securing the clamps, they should be checked. Replace if necessary. Fill the system with coolant (section 17.1).

After installing a new thermostat, you should drive a short distance and check how the thermostat opens.
