Adjustments are made using Figures 369 and 370. The text describes a complete adjustment of the high-pressure fuel pump, which, naturally, is not always carried out. Depending on the type of adjustment, the engine must be either cold or warmed up to operating temperature.

Idle speed increase device control


  • Check on a cold engine that the idle speed control cable (1) is taut and that the piston (7) at location "K" is on the stop.
  • If this is not the case, press the piston (7) in the direction of the arrow, tighten the cable (1) and tighten the cable adjuster (2) until it fits against the stop (3).
  • Compensate for the tensioned cable using the cable adjuster (4).

Adjusting the idle speed increase device


  • Warm up the engine to operating temperature and check whether the cable is loose and whether the piston (5) is in contact with the stop (6).
  • If this is not the case, replace the temperature sensor connected to the cable in the cylinder head.

Idle speed adjustment


  • Adjustment is made using Figure 370. The figure shows a top view of the pump.
  • Loosen the lock nut (15) and fully screw in the stop screw (14). Check that the cable (13) is not taut.
  • Loosen the lock nut (8) of the stop (16). This stop limits the travel of the idle lever (9).
  • Turn the screw (3) until the engine speed is set to 750 +25 rpm.
  • Tighten the lock nut (8) again.

Adjusting the accelerator cable stop



Adjustment is made using Figure 370:
  • Turn the stop screw (14) until it touches the lever (10) and insert a feeler gauge or a washer with a thickness of 2.0 mm between the stop screw (14) and the accelerator lever (19).
  • Start the engine and turn the stop screw (14) after loosening its lock nut (15) until the speed increases by 100 rpm. Tighten the nut (15).
  • Remove the feeler gauge or washer.
  • In idle mode, the engine should slow down. If it stalls or "jerks" at idle, reinsert the dipstick or washer and increase the idle speed slightly. If the engine goes into idle speed very slowly, increase the speed slightly with the dipstick (washer) inserted.




Adjusting the accelerator cable with the engine off


  • Press the gas pedal all the way down and check whether the accelerator lever (10) rests against the screw (11).
  • If this does not happen, move the locking bar of the adjusting sleeve (12).
  • Release the gas pedal and check whether the lever (10) has returned to the stop (14) and whether the accelerator cable (13) is free.

Engine shutdown check


  • Check that the engine turns off when the ignition switch is turned off. If the engine does not turn off, the reason may be in the electromagnetic engine stop valve.
  • Otherwise, check the operation of the mechanical stop by moving the lever (9), moving the stop (10) to the side.
