2. If there is no stand, the engine can be disassembled by securing it on a reliable, heavy workbench or on the floor. Use extreme caution! Do not allow the engine to tilt or fall when working without a stand.
3. If you are going to purchase a rebuilt engine, first remove all external components from the existing engine that will be transferred to the replacement engine (the same as if you were doing a complete engine overhaul yourself). These elements include the following:
- a) support brackets of various elements (oil filter, starter, generator, power steering pump, etc.):
- b) thermostat and corresponding housing (chapter 3);
- c) oil level dipstick tube/sensor;
- d) all electrical switches and sensors;
- d) intake and exhaust manifolds, if applicable (chapter 4A);
- e) coils and spark plugs, if applicable (chapter 5B and 1A);
- g) flywheel (chapter 2A).
Note: When removing external components from the engine, pay special attention to features that may be useful or important when reinstalling the removed components. Consider the installation position of gaskets, seals, spacers, pins, washers, bolts and other small parts.
4. If you are going to purchase an incomplete engine (which includes a cylinder block/engine crankcase, crankshaft, pistons assembled with connecting rods), you should also remove the cylinder head, oil pan, oil pump and timing belt.
5. If you are planning a complete overhaul, the engine can be disassembled and the internal components removed in the sequence below, referring to chapter 2A (unless otherwise stated):
- a) intake and exhaust manifolds, if applicable (see chapter 4A);
- b) timing belt, corresponding toothed pulleys and tensioner;
- c) cylinder head;
- d) flywheel;
- d) oil pan;
- e) oil pump;
- g) pistons assembled with connecting rods (paragraph 9);
- c) crankshaft (paragraph 10).
