Removal and installation the steering knuckle (Peugeot 206)

When removing and installing the steering knuckle, Peugeot service centers use the following special tool:
  • hub locking device - 0606-AY;
  • ball joint puller;
  • ball joint release lever - 0622.

Remove the steering knuckle in the following order:
  • loosen the wheel mounting bolts;
  • apply the parking brake to the car;
  • raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on stands;
  • remove the wheel;

  • using tool 3 (figure 7.11) lock the wheel hub from turning;
  • unscrew the CV joint mounting nut;

Warning! Do not use the brakes for this purpose. This may result in the brake disc mounting bolt being cut off from the hub.

  • remove the brake caliper, move the brake disc to the side and tie it up, but do not disconnect the hoses;
  • on cars with ABS remove the speed sensor;

  • unscrew bolt 1 (see figure 7.3) lower shock absorber mount;
  • disconnect the anti-roll bar link;

  • unscrew nut 1 (see figure 7.4) lower ball joint mounting bolt;

  • disconnect tip 2 (see figure 7.5) steering rod from the steering knuckle by unscrewing the ball joint nut and pressing it out using a tool;
  • lower the suspension arm;

  • detach the shock absorber housing 1 (figure 7.6) from the steering knuckle;
  • remove the steering knuckle by pushing it towards you and removing it from the CV joint splines.


Install the steering knuckle in the reverse order of removal. When installing, replace the self-locking nuts with new ones.
