Figure 1.14. Car keys and ignition switch: a - standard; b - with remote control; in — ignition switch

The car is equipped with a set of keys - main and spare. Keys (figure 1.14) allow you to unlock the front doors and trunk lid independently of each other, control the connection of the front passenger airbag and the fuel filler flap, and turn on the ignition.

By pressing button A (see figure 1.14, b) the key remote control can be used to lock the car remotely. By pressing the B button on the remote control, the car doors can be opened. The execution of commands is confirmed by the flashing of the lamps in the turn signal lights.

Ignition switch (see figure 1.14, in) is installed on the steering column and is designed to supply power to the vehicle systems, authorized engine start, block the engine start system and block the rotation of the steering wheel. The key can occupy four positions in the ignition switch:
  • "S" - the steering wheel is locked, you can insert and remove the key;
  • "A" — the steering wheel is unlocked, power is supplied to auxiliary consumers;
  • "M" — ignition on (for diesel engine — pre-heating of glow plugs);
  • "D" — starter on, engine start.

After removing the ignition key, it is necessary to slightly rock the steering wheel so that it clicks into the lock. When turning the ignition key from position "S" to position "A", it is recommended to slightly rock the steering wheel, which helps to unlock the steering wheel.

If the vehicle is equipped with an electronic anti-theft system, the ignition key is a direct element of the engine start circuit blocking system (ignition, fuel supply and starter). The engine can only be started with the key of the car on which it is installed, since it has an electronic "friend or foe" recognition circuit built into it.
