Windshield Washer — general information (Peugeot 305)

1. The washer system includes an electric pump that takes water from the washer reservoir and directs it to two nozzles that deliver water to the glass. To turn on the washer, with the ignition on, press the windshield wiper lever towards the steering wheel. The washer reservoir is located behind the right headlight, and the pump is located directly in front of the reservoir. To get to them, you need to remove the headlight, but you can fill the reservoir with water by simply removing the plastic cover on the inner surface of the right wing (see photos).

2. Failures in the operation of the washer are usually caused by clogged nozzles. If the nozzles do not deliver water to the glass when the pump is running and the tank is filled with water, you should clean them with a thin wire. Another reason for washer failure is twisting or disconnection of its tubes. In winter, the washer may not work due to freezing of water in the pipes or in the tank (in this case, a special antifreeze for windshield washers should be added to the water).

3. If the pump does not work when the washer is turned on, you should get to the pump and disconnect the electrical connector from it. Connect a 12V test lamp between the N87 wire and the M23 ground wire and check if power is supplied to the pump. If the lamp lights up, the pump needs to be replaced. If the lamp does not light, walk along the circuit and find the break.
