Table of contents: Radio 🠇 Car radios 🠇
A radio or car stereo will only work well if it is installed correctly. When purchasing them, you should check that they have the same polarity as the car's electrical system.
The final choice of location for installing the radio receiver (car radios) and the speakers depend on you. Below we provide only general guidelines that are suitable for all cases.
Radio
Most radios are a standard size and are designed to fit a standard mounting hole. On the Peugeot 305, the standard location for the radio is on the centre console, in front of the gear lever.
When connecting the radio, follow the manufacturer's instructions. Power should be supplied from the auxiliary circuit (the one powered when the ignition key is in position "A"). This circuit is protected by fuse No. 4, but since the latter is rated at 15 A, an additional in-line fuse should be installed to properly protect the radio (usually 2 A).
When choosing an antenna, remember that the longer it is, the better the reception. Telescopic antennas with a motorized drive, which extend when the radio is turned on and automatically retract when it is turned off, are very convenient in many ways, but they fail more often than conventional antennas.
When choosing a location to install the antenna, consider the following:
- a. The antenna wire should be as short as possible (it is better to install the antenna at the front of the car).
- b. The antenna should be installed as far away as possible from the distributor and high-voltage wires.
- c. Lower part of the antenna (the one that protrudes under the installation site) should not touch moving parts.
- g. The antenna should, if possible, be installed so that it is not necessary to run the coaxial cable through the engine compartment.
- d. The antenna should be mounted on a more or less horizontal surface, if possible.
To install the antenna, you usually need to make a hole with a diameter of 19 mm in the body (please read the instructions included with the antenna).
On those Peugeot 305 models that are equipped with a branded radio, the antenna is located in the middle of the front edge of the roof, and its wire runs along the windshield pillar.
The speaker is located in the center of the dashboard. When the speaker is not installed, the opening for it is covered with a grille. To install the speaker, simply remove the grille and install the speaker using screws or bolts.
It is better to place two speakers at the ends of the rear shelf. It is recommended to run the wires from them to the radio under the mats, preferably in the middle of the car, so that they cannot be touched by feet.
Car radios
If possible, the car radio should be installed horizontally so that the driver, wearing a seat belt, can reach it.
When installing speakers, follow the manufacturer's instructions and, if in doubt, contact a specialist.
