The final choice of a place to install the radio (car radios) and speakers is up to you. Below we give only general guidelines that are suitable for all cases.
Radio
Most radios are standard sized and will fit a standard mounting hole. On the Peugeot 305, the standard radio installation location is on the center console, in front of the gear lever.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions when connecting the radio. Power must be supplied from the wire for auxiliary equipment (the one that is powered when the ignition key is in position "A"). This circuit is protected by fuse No. 4, but since the latter has a rating of 15 A; for normal protection of the radio, one more linear fuse should be installed (usually 2 A).
When choosing an antenna, remember that the longer it is, the better the reception. Motorized telescopic antennas, which extend when the radio is turned on and automatically retract when the radio is turned off, are very convenient in many respects, but fail more often than conventional antennas.
Consider the following when choosing a location to mount the antenna:
- A. Antenna wire should be as short as possible (ie the antenna is better to install in front of the car).
- b. The antenna should be installed as far away as possible from the distributor and high voltage wires.
- V. The bottom of the antenna (the one that protrudes under the installation site) must not interfere with moving parts.
- d. The antenna should, if possible, be installed so that it is not necessary to pass the coaxial cable through the engine compartment.
- e. The antenna should be mounted on a more or less horizontal surface whenever possible.
To install the antenna, it is usually required to make a hole with a diameter of 19 mm in the body (read the instructions supplied with the antenna).
On those Peugeot 305 models on which a branded radio is installed, the antenna is located in the middle of the front edge of the roof, and its wire is passed along the windshield pillar.
The column is in the center "torpedoes". In the absence of a column, the hole under it is closed with a grate. To install the column, simply remove the grille and install the column with screws or bolts.
Two speakers are best placed at the ends of the rear shelf. It is recommended to run the wires from them to the radio receiver under the mats, preferably in the middle of the car, so that they cannot be touched by feet.
Car radios
If possible, the car radio should be installed horizontally so that the driver, wearing a seat belt, can reach it.
When installing speakers, follow the manufacturer's instructions and, if in doubt, consult a specialist.
