Replacing the rear shock absorber (Peugeot 307)

To remove the rear shock absorber:
  • lift and secure the vehicle, leaving the rear wheels off the ground;

  • install a hydraulic stand (jack) 2 under the lower support plate of the spring (see Figure 6.32) and slightly compress the spring through a wooden block;
  • unscrew the nut and remove the bolt 1 (figure 6.32) lower shock absorber mount;

  • unscrew bolts 1 (figure 6.33) upper mount and remove the shock absorber from the vehicle.

To install the rear shock absorber:


  • install the shock absorber, screw in the upper mounting bolts and tighten them to a torque of 62 N·m;
  • secure the shock absorber to the rear suspension beam with a bolt and nut 1 (see Figure 6.32), tightening the nut by hand;
  • set the car's suspension to the middle position;
  • tighten the lower shock absorber mounting bolts and nuts to 57 Nm.
