1. If the coolant temperature gauge gives incorrect readings, then the gauge itself, the temperature sensor, the connecting wiring and contact points should be checked.
2. Check first that the wires are not broken and that the contacts are clean and not rusty. The temperature gauge and temperature sensor cannot be repaired and must be replaced in the event of a malfunction.
3. The wiring can be checked by directly connecting the auxiliary wire between the temperature sensor and the temperature gauge. Start the engine (checking that the disconnected wires do not touch the fan) and check how the temperature gauge works. Alternatively, the wires can be checked for continuity with a multimeter or test light.
4. The temperature sensor is best checked by trial replacement. The sensor is located immediately in front of the thermostat housing on the upper left side of the cylinder block. Before removing the sensor, partially drain the coolant (see section 2) and disconnect the power cable from the sensor. Unscrew the sensor.
5. Installation of a new sensor is carried out in reverse order. Pour liquid into the cooling system (see section 4).
6. The procedure for removing and installing the temperature gauge is given in chapter 10.
