Automatic transmission «Tiptronic-system Porsche» (Peugeot 307)

Thanks to the four-speed automatic transmission, the vehicle's driving modes are fully automated. You can choose one of four transmission modes at your own discretion: "Automatic", "Sport", "Snow Driving" and "Manual Gear Shifting".

Mode selector positions

Switching between the operating modes of the automatic transmission is carried out by moving the selector (figure 1.37).

In this case, the selector position is displayed on the indicator on the instrument cluster:

• S — sports program;
• * — snow driving program;
• P — Park — is used to prevent the vehicle from rolling while parked and when starting the engine; the parking brake can be engaged or disengaged.

Caution! Never shift the selector to the "R" or "P" position while the vehicle is moving.

• R — Reverse (Reverse) reverse gear can only be engaged after the vehicle has come to a complete stop and the engine is idling.
• N — Neutral (Neutral position) used when starting the engine and when parking the car, simultaneously with the parking brake.

Note: If the selector lever is accidentally moved to the "N" position while the vehicle is moving, release the accelerator pedal and reduce the engine speed to idle speed before moving the lever to any forward position.

• D — Drive (Long forward movement) for driving in automatic mode;
• M — Manual (Manual switching) for driving in manual gear shift mode.

Starting off

The engine can only be started when the control selector is in the "N" or "P" positions.

To move the selector to one of the driving positions with the vehicle stationary and the engine running, release the parking brake and simultaneously press the brake pedal.

Caution! When selecting a position with the vehicle stationary, do not press the accelerator pedal.

Caution! With the engine running and the selector in any drive position, hold the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal, as even at idle, torque transmission to the wheels is not completely interrupted—the vehicle will "creep." If the vehicle is stationary and in one of the drive positions, do not press the accelerator pedal under any circumstances (and do not increase the fuel supply by hand from the engine compartment), otherwise, the car will start moving even with the parking brake on.

Before performing any work with the engine running, place the selector in the "P" position and apply the parking brake.

Automatic operation mode

To automatically shift four gears, move the mode selector to position "D." The transmission will continuously select the gear best suited to driving conditions, depending on a number of parameters, such as driving style, road profile, and vehicle load.

Caution! Never move the shift selector to the "N" position while the vehicle is still moving. Never move the shift selector to the "P" or "R" positions unless the vehicle is stopped. Do not shift to a lower gear to brake on slippery roads.

Forced downshift device ("kick down")

The device provides maximum acceleration of the vehicle under given driving conditions. As soon as the force on the accelerator pedal exceeds a certain threshold value, depending on the engine speed and driving speed, a shift to one of the lower gears occurs. Shifting to the next higher gear will only occur when the maximum permissible engine crankshaft speed is reached.

"Sport" and "Snow Driving" modes

The mode selection is confirmed by the indicator on the instrument cluster.

Sports mode

Move the selector to position "D" and press the "S" button.

The so-called "sport" gearbox operating program is selected when the accelerator pedal is controlled quite sharply. When selecting the "sport" program, the engine's power reserves are fully utilized due to a slight delay in upshifting.

Driving mode on snow

This program makes starting easier and improves traction when road grip is poor.

Move the selector to position "D" and press button "028".



This program provides a smooth ride on slippery roads to improve traction and handling.

Note: You can switch back to auto-adaptive at any time (normal) program, for which press the "S" or "028" buttons again to exit the corresponding automatic transmission operating program.

Manual gear shifting

The presence of a sequential gear shift mode (tiptronic system) allows the driver to manually shift gears.

You can switch to the manual shift program either when the vehicle is stationary or while it is moving, by moving the selector to the "M" position.

When moving the selector forward (+), upshifts are sequentially engaged, and when moving it backward (-), downshifts are sequentially engaged.

When accelerating the car, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears are automatically engaged shortly before the engine reaches its maximum permissible speed.

If the driver shifts to a lower gear, the transmission control unit will only engage that gear when there is no danger of overrevving the engine.

Features of work

Shifting from one gear to another in manual mode occurs only when the vehicle speed matches the engine crankshaft speed, otherwise the gearbox will immediately switch to automatic mode.

When the vehicle is stopped or moving at very low speed, the gearbox automatically switches to "M" mode.

When switching to manual gear shift mode, the "S" ("Sport") and "028" ("Driving on snow") programs do not work.

Gearbox malfunction

Any malfunction in the gearbox is accompanied by a buzzer signal, as well as the appearance of the message "Automatic gearbox faulty" on the display and the flashing of the "Sport" and "Driving on snow" program indicators on the instrument cluster.



In this case, the box starts to operate in emergency mode (only in 3rd gear). You may feel a noticeable bump when you switch the reverse gear from the "P" position to the "R" position or from "N" to "R" (however, this does not pose a risk of damage to the gearbox). Drive at a speed not exceeding 100 km/h (within the current traffic regulations).

Important! Contact a Peugeot service center immediately to have the automatic transmission checked. If the battery fails, engaging any gear from position "P" will be impossible.
