- Turn off the engine.
- Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
- Unscrew the union nut of the pressure pipe (1) in Figure 204 and pull the hose out of the fitting. Place a flat container under the steering mechanism.
- Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times. When the steering cylinder moves, the fluid is forced out of the system and drained.
- Connect and tighten the hose to the cylinder.
- Fill the expansion tank with fluid, the same as that used in automatic transmissions.
- With the engine still off, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock and add fluid to the expansion tank.
- Connect the battery and start the engine. Leave the engine to idle.
- The assistant slowly turns the steering wheel from one stop to the other. At the same time, constantly monitor the expansion tank and add fluid if necessary.
- Turn off the engine and check the fluid level, which should be between marks (1) and (2) on the expansion tank (figure 211). The liquid level changes with temperature, but should not fall below the "Min" mark (1).
