To remove the tailgate:
  • turn off the ignition and disconnect the ground wire from the battery;

  • remove the rear shelf 1 (figure 10.22);
  • remove the interior trim of the trunk lid;
  • remove the central upper panel 5 of the door trim;
  • remove the upper side trim panels 2;
  • remove the trunk lid lock;
  • disconnect the electrical connectors for the door release button, rear window defroster, and windshield wiper motor;
  • release the tailgate wiring harness from the clamps;
  • disconnect the protective corrugated cover from the body, covering the wires connecting the body and the rear door;
  • tie a thin long cord to the end of the wire harness;
  • pull the wire harness out of the door, untie the cord from it, and leave it in the door. In the future, the cord will be needed to install electrical wiring in the door;

  • remove three clips 3 from each side of the door (figure 10.23);
  • remove the lower 2 and upper 1 trim of the rear side panel of the body;
  • in the car's interior, remove the ceiling handles;
  • remove the two fasteners securing the rear part of the headliner;
  • move the rear part of the headliner away from the roof;
  • ask an assistant to support the trunk door in the open position;

  • remove the clamps 1 (figure 10.24) from the upper hinges A of the gas-filled struts 2;
  • remove the upper gas strut hinges from the hinge bases on the door;

  • socket wrench 1 (figure 10.25) using the 1355-A Tailgate Removal Tool inserted between the headliner and the vehicle roof, remove the tailgate hinge bolts and remove the tailgate from the vehicle.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
  • when installing, use new tailgate mounting nuts and tighten them to a torque of 16 N·m;
  • adjust the position and clearances of the tailgate;
  • connect the ground wire to the battery;
  • check the functionality of electrical equipment;
  • initiate all electronic systems.
