2. There are special pastes and bandages for sealing holes and cracks in the exhaust system. They fix the problem in the short term, but in the long run, it's better to replace the damaged section.
3. Inspect the system's mounting straps for damage and replace if necessary.
4. Removal and installation of the exhaust system is carried out in the same way as in the case of models with a gasoline engine.
Emission control system - general information
1. Some engines are equipped with an emission control system to reduce the emission of pollutants into the atmosphere.
2. Depending on the model, one of the following systems may be installed.
Crankcase emission control system
3. The crankcase ventilation system is on all models.
4. Oil vapors and gases that have broken through the piston rings are taken from the crankcase and from under the valve cover through the oil filler tube (which includes an oil separator) and enter the air intake duct, from where they, together with air, are sucked into the engine, where they burn out).
Exhaust emission control system
5. In order to minimize the content of pollutants in the exhaust gases, a catalytic converter is installed in the exhaust system on some models.
6. The catalytic converter consists of a chamber containing a fine mesh impregnated with catalyst. When the exhaust gases pass through the converter, the catalyst accelerates the oxidation of carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons and soot, resulting in a marked reduction in the amount of pollutants entering the atmosphere.
