Plastics are widely used in modern cars (bumpers, spoilers and sometimes even structural body parts). If such parts are damaged, it is better to entrust their repair to a specialist, because. it requires special equipment. The repair technique is to make a groove along the crack line with a rotary file and then "weld" the damaged part of the part using an industrial hair dryer, placing a special plastic filler in the groove. Excess filler is then removed and the seam is sanded to a smooth surface. It is very important that the type of filler is suitable for the material from which the part is made, because. different plastics have different characteristics.
Less serious defects (scuffs, small cracks) can be cleaned by yourself with a 2-component epoxy filler. After 20-30 minutes after application, the filler hardens and can be cleaned and painted.
When painting plastic parts, it is necessary to choose a paint that is suitable for this type of plastic. There are universal paints that fit well on all types of plastics. Currently, special kits are sold, which include a preliminary primer, a primer and the paint itself. Instructions are usually attached to the kits, but in principle they are all used as follows. First, apply a pre-primer coat and allow it to dry for 30 minutes. After that, a primer is applied on top, which dries for about 1 hour, and then the paint itself. Such a coating has sufficient elasticity and will bend with the plastic without crumbling from it. Ordinary paints do not have this property.
