The BE1/5 type manual gearbox fitted to XU series engine models is significantly different from the BB8 type used on earlier models. One of the fundamental differences is that the gearbox and engine on the latest models have completely separate lubrication systems.

2. The gearbox has 5 forward gears (all with synchronizers) and one reverse gear. A solution traditional for 5-speed gearboxes is used, where the 5th gear components are located on the other side of the intermediate plate on which 2 shaft bearings are mounted.

3. The differential and final drive are located in their own separate housing, bolted to the gearbox housing. Differential (main gear) have a common lubrication system with the gearbox.

4. Models produced for certain countries may use a 4-speed version of the BE1 gearbox. It differs from the 5-speed version only in the absence of 5th gear components.
