Besides disc brakes

Adjusting the handbrake is required after replacing the brake pads or replacing the handbrake cable. The handbrake cable is adjusted in a specific way.

To check the cable adjustment, place the rear of the vehicle on stands and loosen the adjuster lock nut. Turn the adjusting nut until the brake shoes lightly contact the brake drum. From this position, loosen the nut until the wheels rotate freely. After this, tighten the lock nut again. Apply the handbrake and check that the rear wheels lock by pulling the lever 12 clicks.

Disc brakes

  • Fully loosen the handbrake cables on the adjusting sleeve under the vehicle until there is approximately 5 mm of clearance between the cable guide and the brake caliper lever, as shown in Figure 294.

  • Press the brake pedal several times.
  • Move the rear brake caliper levers back and make sure they can return to their original position freely and without any assistance.
  • Check the operation of the handbrake. The wheels should brake when the handbrake lever is pulled 10-11 clicks. When the handbrake lever is released, the rear wheels should turn freely.
