Replacing the front wheel hub bearing (Peugeot 307)

To remove the front wheel hub bearing:
  • remove the steering knuckle;

  • remove retaining ring 1 (figure 6.10), front wheel hub bearing retainer;
  • secure the steering knuckle in a vice;

  • install pressure insert 0621-E 1 (figure 6.11) or a round steel plate of the appropriate diameter;

  • install puller 0621-K 2 on the steering knuckle (figure 6.12) and, screwing in bolt 0621-C 1, push out hub 3 together with the inner bearing race;
  • screw two wheel mounting bolts into the hub, then secure it in a vice using the bolts;

  • remove the retaining ring 1 from the hub (figure 6.13);

  • install the pressure bearing 0621-E 1 on the hub and remove the inner race 3 using the FACOM U 53 (K2+T2) puller 2 (figure 6.14) bearing;
  • install the inner bearing race into place in the steering knuckle;

  • install the thrust plate of the bearing puller 0621-B 2 (figure 6.15) on the press table;
  • install the steering knuckle into the thrust plate of the bearing puller 0621-B;
  • install and press the 0621-D 1 fixture (see Figure 6.15) to the bearing race and press out the bearing with a press.

Caution! When installing, it is necessary to use new front wheel hub bearing and retaining rings.


To install the front wheel hub bearing:
  • before pressing the bearing in, apply a thin layer of aerosol lubricant such as MOLYKOTE 321R to the walls of the bearing seat inside the steering knuckle and to the hub;

  • install the bearing on the steering knuckle using the bearing installation mandrel 0621-L 1 (figure 6.16) press it in;
  • install new retaining rings to hold the bearing in the steering knuckle socket;
  • secure the steering knuckle in a vice;

  • bolt 0621-C 1 and nut 0621-D 2 (figure 6.17) install the hub into the bearing;
  • install the steering knuckle back into place.
