Camshaft — removal (Peugeot 305)

1. If the engine is still in the car, the cylinder head must be removed before removing the camshaft. If the engine has already been removed and placed on the work bench, it is necessary to remove the timing cover and the timing mechanism itself. In addition, the front end of the engine must be disassembled before the rockers can be removed, and since the cylinder head will not hold after this, the bolts must be temporarily reinstalled (on all camshaft holes). Alternatively, you can remove the head and then proceed to remove the camshaft.

2. After removing the rockers and camshaft sprocket, unscrew the camshaft plate bolt and remove the bolt and plate.

3. Carefully slide the camshaft out of its bearings in the cylinder head towards the timing chain and pull it out. Be careful not to damage the bearing surfaces with the sharp edges of the camshaft lobes.
