Models up to 1983
1. Follow the above procedure, taking into account that the brake drum platter has a V-profile seal on the Estate models. This seal must be replaced after each removal.
Models since 1983
2. Raise and securely support the rear of the machine. Remove the rear wheel and brake drum from the desired side.
3. Remove the hub cap. Loosen the hub nut (it is very tight and can be locked). Remove the washer under the nut (see photo).
4. Remove hub (most likely this will require a powerful puller).
5. Use a punch or chisel to knock the gland cap back towards the center of the machine. Install a puller on the bearing inner race and remove it from the stub axle.
6. To wring out a fixing cap of an epiploon in the points shown on B/fig. 12.89, and take it off.
7. The gland cap, hub nut and hub cap must be replaced after each removal. The new hub comes only complete with bearings (don't try to separate them).
8. Start assembly by installing a new gland cap. The manufacturer requires that this work be done with tool 8.0530D, however, a tube of a suitable diameter can be dispensed with. Do not press the cap too deep.
9. Apply some oil or grease to the trunnion, being careful not to oil the brake pads.
10. Install the inner race of the bearing on the trunnion and drive it inward, screwing in a new hub nut. As you turn the nut, tap it gently with a wooden mallet to make the job easier. After 2-3 turns, you can remove the hammer and tighten the nut with a wrench.
11. On Estate models and "van" the pivot pin can be rotated when the nut is tightened. In this case, it must be locked using the hex key inserted at the back.
12. After the nut reaches the stop and stops turning, unscrew it, install a thick washer between the nut and the bearing ring and screw the nut again, driving the bearing ring further inland. Repeat this operation, increasing the thickness of the washers, until the ring almost snaps into place.
13. Remove the nut with washers, install the hub with bearings on the trunnion and complete the installation of the inner bearing race by hitting the hub with a wooden mallet. Use a tube or socket wrench to apply a load to the bearing inner race.
14. Install washer and new hub nut. Tighten the nut to the correct torque and drive its collar into the groove on the trunnion.
15. Install hub cap (see photo), brake drum and wheel. Lower the machine to the ground and tighten the wheel bolts to the correct torque.
