1. Install the cables to hold the shock absorber (tool 8.0903 AE — see chapter 9) on the shock absorber spring from the side you need.
2. Loosen the 3 top rack nuts.
3. Remove the hub nut.
4. Raise and securely support the front of the machine. Remove the wheel, brake caliper and brake disc from the desired side. Tie the caliper aside so that the brake hose is not under tension.
5. Secure the drive shaft with tool 8.0615 H or similar so that it does not come out of the final drive housing.
6. Disconnect the lower anti-roll bar link.
7. Remove the clamping bolt and nut securing the pivot pin to the A-pillar (see photo).
8. Open the clamp using the socket wrench handle with "square" by 1/4 inch (see photo). Push down on the stub axle to release it from the strut and rotate it outward to move away from the drive shaft.
9. If the drive shaft has a fixed fit in the hub, it must be removed with a puller. Do not try to knock the shaft out of the hub.
10. A number of special tools are required to remove the bearing hub from the stub axle. Therefore, we recommend that you remove the stub axle assembly (disengaging the ball joints) and deliver it to a specialized workshop where they will remove the hub for you.
11. Wheel bearing replacement also requires the use of special tools and should be done by a specialist. After the hub is disconnected from the stub axle, the bearing must be replaced. Please note that since 1985, larger wheel bearings have been installed on the latest Peugeot models.
12. The hub is installed in the reverse order. Replace nuts on ball joints with new ones (if filmed) and on the drive shaft and tighten all fasteners to the correct torque. Check the correct position of the rack (see chapter 9).
