- Raise the rear of the vehicle and place it on stands.
- Unscrew the nut (1) in Figure 250 and remove the washer.

- Knock out the bolt (3) from the shock absorber hole. On the right side there is an oblong hole in the bracket (4) of the handbrake cable, which allows you to lift the bracket after unscrewing the bolt (5) and pull out the bolt (3).
- Using Figure 251, loosen the upper mount nut, remove the washer and knock the bolt out of the shock absorber. Remove the second washer.
- Remove the shock absorber.
- To check the shock absorber, secure it vertically in a vice and stretch and press its loose end. Throughout the entire working stroke of the shock absorber, the same resistance should be felt and there should be no dead zones. Otherwise, the shock absorber must be replaced.
The shock absorber is installed as follows:
- Install the shock absorber using Figures 250 and 251. To do this, place a washer on the lower mount and screw on a new nut, insert a bolt with two washers from the top side and screw on a new nut. Don't tighten the buns yet.
- Load the rear of the vehicle to compress the shock absorbers to the correct length. At Peugeot service stations a special device is used for this purpose. The easiest way is to place the load in the luggage compartment so that the "X" dimension in Figure 247 is exactly 288 mm. Then tighten the top nut to 75 Nm and the bottom nut to 120 Nm. Remove the load from the luggage compartment.
- On the right side, install the handbrake cable mounting bracket and tighten to a torque of 27.5 Nm.
- All other work is carried out in reverse order.
