All Peugeot 306 vehicles described in this publication are equipped with a rack and pinion steering system, which can be installed with or without power steering. It should be noted that the steering mechanism on cars with engines with a working volume of 1.6 and 1.8 liters is the same. Cars with other engines have different steering mechanisms. The difference lies in the power steering valve. It is marked either blue (for engines with a working volume of 1.6 and 1.8 liters), or yellow paint.
There is another difference when diesel engines are installed. On them, the hydraulic fluid cooling tubes are placed in accordance with Figure 202.

The power steering has a working cylinder installed between the toothed rack on one side and the steering rod on the other side.
