1. Connect the gearbox to the engine (see Chapter 6, Section 6).
2. If the transmission has not been disassembled, it is advisable to remove the lower transmission cover and then the oil intake filter, which is secured with three bolts. Thoroughly clean the filter in kerosene and, if possible, dry it with compressed air. Install the filter in place with a new rubber seal and tighten its 3 bolts to the specified torque. Install the lower cover with a new gasket and tighten its 13 mounting bolts to the specified torque. This operation will prevent dirt and sediment from the filter or pan from entering the rebuilt engine.
