Replacing the gear selector mechanism (Peugeot 307)

To remove the gear selector mechanism:
  • turn off the ignition and disconnect the ground wire from the battery;
  • remove the air filter housing;

  • using a ball joint remover, remove the ball joint 1 (see Figure 5.52) cable;
  • use a screwdriver blade to remove the stop 3 from the cable sheath;
  • remove the handle from the selector lever;
  • remove the center console;

  • disconnect electrical connectors 1 and 2 from the selector lever mechanism (figure 5.58);
  • on the left side of the selector lever mechanism, disconnect and remove the relay;
  • remove the screws securing the selector lever mechanism;
  • lift the car;
  • remove the front exhaust system suspension cushion;
  • unscrew the heat shield mounting screws and slide it back as far as possible;
  • remove the gear selector mechanism.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
  • when installing the ball tip 1 (see Figure 5.52) insert a crowbar under the gear selector lever;
  • adjust the gear selection mechanism if necessary;
  • connect the ground wire to the battery.
